How to find a photo's GPS location on Android
Most Android cameras save photos as JPEG with GPS built in. Here's how to view the location in Google Photos and pull the exact coordinates.
Short answer: In Google Photos, open the image and tap the ⓘ info button (or swipe up) to see a map of where it was taken. For the exact latitude and longitude, upload the JPEG to the tool below — it reads the GPS metadata on your device.
Method 1: Google Photos location card
- Open Google Photos and tap the photo.
- Swipe up or tap the info (ⓘ) button.
- If the photo is geotagged, a map with the place name appears. Tap it to open Google Maps.
Google Photos may also estimate a location from your timeline even when the file has no GPS — so treat an estimated place differently from the coordinates baked into the file.
Method 2: Read the exact coordinates from the file
Android photos are typically JPEG, which this tool reads directly. Upload one to get copy-ready coordinates and a Google Maps link:
Turn location tagging on
If new photos aren't geotagged, enable it: open the Camera app → Settings → turn on Location tags (or "Save location"). You'll also need Location permission granted to the Camera app in Android Settings.
